Solar Dawn gets WISER.
30 Aug 2011
In late June, the Australian Government announced WISE Client ‘Solar Dawn’ as the preferred solar thermal power project in Round 1 of its Solar Flagships Program.WISE congratulates Solar Dawn consortium members including AREVA Solar, CS Energy and Wind Prospect CWP on their success!
Over the last year, WISE has been providing a range of services to Solar Dawn for the proposed 250 megawatt solar thermal gas hybrid power plant to be built near Chinchilla in South West Queensland. When built, Solar Dawn will be the largest of its kind and one of the most environmentally responsible power plants in the world!
The Australian Government’s funding commitment now allows the Solar Dawn consortium to obtain
remaining regulatory approvals and finalise the plant’s detailed design, financing and commercial contracts by the end of 2011.If successful, the project will be a welcome addition to Australia’s green energy portfolio.
The services provided by WISE to Solar Dawn have included:
· Due diligence of an existing solar monitoring station
· Review of historical data from three solar monitoring stations including identification and flagging
of anomalous data and the provision of a set of "flagged" and cleaned data.
· Design and installation of an international best practice tracking solar monitoring station to
measure Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI), Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI), Diffuse Horizontal
Irradiance (DHI) and other meteorological data. Sensors include a pyroheliometer,
pyranometers, temperature, pressure and wind speed and direction sensors.
· Ongoing maintenance of the monitoring station.
· Ongoing data management including daily checks of the data and weekly and monthly analysis
and reporting to ensure that the data available is the highest quality and certainty.
WISE looks forward to continuing to work with Solar Dawn, providing comprehensive,
data management services and high quality data for the successful development of a
large-scale solar energy project.
